General Index (GX) is a commodity benchmark provider based on data not journalism. We produce ~4,000 daily energy prices (in crude oil & refined products, biofuels, hydrogen and carbon markets) which are calculated algorithmically using detailed methodologies from thousands of trades collated from 190+ data partners, meaning they are robust, consistent and compliant with IOSCO and FCA requirements.
Backed at Series A by Chalfen Ventures and 20VC (Harry Stebbings), GX has an experienced team with proven leadership – as well as a rapidly growing customer and partner base – including ExxonMobil, Bloomberg, Shell, Mattel, TotalEnergies, Snowflake, BP, BeZero and ICE.
With offices in London, Krakow, Houston and Singapore, GX continues to build our team and we are now looking for a Senior Energy Analyst to be responsible for delivering daily assessments, benchmark creation for specific markets, ensure data is in line with company methodology and support the overriding GX mission to encourage the energy market to adopt GX benchmarks through engagement with key stakeholders.
About the role:
- Be responsible for daily assessment of commodity market within the purview of their role. Duties include checking the integrity of the underlying data used for assessment and making sure the correct methodology is being applied
- Keep abreast of the latest market development that could impact pricing of the market impact or require updating or amending the underlying methodology for that market
- Play a role in the wider mission of encouraging the market to adopt GX benchmarks through regular engagement with key stakeholders in the energy market
- Taking on primary responsibility for daily benchmark creation for specific markets, ensuring quality control of the calculations and ensure these are in line with official methodology
- Be committed to and comfortable building external engagement through:
- developing/maintaining dialogue with traders and brokers in the relevant markets, ensuring GX methodology remains relevant and data quality is assured
- engaging with market participants to collect price-moving market intelligence
- working with the Sales team to “socialise” GX data in the market and encourage its adoption/utilisation
- Identifying new markets for GX entry, and if approved, driving forward the development and socialisation of benchmarks in these new markets
- Generating written analytical content on ad-hoc basis
About you:
- Relevant degree/qualification that demonstrates experience and learning suitable for this role
- A minimum three years of experience covering a commodity market with a focus on either pricing or fundamental analysis
