General Index (GX) is a commodity benchmark provider based on data not journalism. We produce over 3,000 daily energy prices (in crude oil & refined products, biofuels, hydrogen and carbon markets) which are calculated algorithmically using detailed methodologies from thousands of trades collated from 170+ data partners, meaning they are robust, consistent and compliant with IOSCO and FCA requirements.  

Backed at Series A by Chalfen Ventures and 20VC (Harry Stebbings), GX has an experienced team with proven leadership –as well as a rapidly growing customer and partner base – including ExxonMobil, Bloomberg, Shell, Mattel, TotalEnergies, Snowflake, BP, BeZero and ICE.

With offices in London, Krakow, Houston and Singapore, GX is now scaling our go-to-market team and we are looking for an enthusiastic Sales Director to accelerate our growth; to learn and grow alongside our business.

You will:

  • Outbound prospect to key personas on our target account list across energy, financial services and consulting industries.
  • Establish and grow relationships with senior professionals in key accounts to build a deep understanding of each clients’ requirements and identify where and how GX adoption can most benefit them.
  • Co-ordinate account engagement across teams within GX, to ensure touch points are maintained and supported.
  • Carry out high quality client and prospect engagements and presentations both in online calls and in-person meetings.
  • Nurture existing customer relationships to drive GX data sales adoption and integration and look after renewals ensuring we seek expansion opportunities and keep our customers happy.
  • Develop a firm understanding of GX data and markets – articulate how our technology and products solve problems and create opportunities for our customers.
  • Use our sales and marketing stack to ensure rigour and efficiency, employing tools such as HubSpot, Apollo, LinkedIn Sales Navigator and Gong to work in a data-driven and AI-enabled way.

You are:

  • Knowledgeable. You have worked in or around the traded energy markets and understand how buying decisions are made within large organizations across front, middle and back office.
  • Curious. You know that being a great salesperson requires a strong understanding of our data, technology and industry marketplace, as well as going above and beyond to know our customers’ and prospects’ challenges inside out.
  • Exceptionally proactive. At GX we hire smart people to share and learn from their ideas.  You will launch and implement projects on your own initiative.  If something is not entirely clear, you find a way by asking questions and experimenting. We are still building our playbook and we want you to be a part of that journey.
  • Customer-centric. You care about building relationships and that our customers have a first-class experience with us. You want them to thrive post-sale (not just during the sales process).
  • Ambitious and driven. You want to win and celebrate success with your team – ensuring we take GX to the next level.
  • Resilient. You understand that prospecting is tough and can handle objections and rejections along the way. Self-initiated outreach is a key part of the role and you understand that it takes persistence and creativity to succeed.
  • A team player. You understand the importance of working thoughtfully and co-operatively with sales colleagues and different departments in the business.
  • Organized. You have a natural attention to detail and understand the importance of prioritization in the sales process.
  • Commercially-savvy. You are comfortable working with numbers, negotiating and working alongside our sales management to pull together complex proposals.

You offer:

  • 7+ years of new business and growth sales experience (which must include a track record within major accounts).
  • Experience of selling into large complex accounts with multiple decision makers and influencers.
  • A familiarity with the challenges and joy of working in a rapidly growing start-up.
  • Ability to travel to visit prospects and customers in-person.
  • Energy and commodities market experience.
